Flleur’s Track IDs
N10.as’ 10th Anniversary Fundraiser at Parquette (2026-03-15)
I celebrated n10.as's 10th anniversary at Parquette, on Sunday March 15th in a haze of birthday cake, friendship, and beautiful music.
I’ve had my show on n10.as for 6 years now as Also Cool Mag, where we share everything from indie rock to weird electronic, premiere episodes of our podcast Also Cool Sounds Like, and host guest interviews and mixes.
I remember first going to the radio station for Ohara Hale‘s show when it was in the Durocher lofts back in 2016-17 (?) and wishing that I could be involved, someday, somehow. When we got our first guest slot on the station, Zoë and I freaked out; we were so excited, climbing the spiral staircase up to the station’s second location.
It’s now one of my favourite parts of the month: talking into the radio void in n10.as’ current home, above Système, saying hi to friends whose shows are right before or after mine, hosting guests, and subjecting you all to my personal taste in music.
It’s also been amazing to see and help facilitate the ecosystem that is the n10.as to Système pipeline, creating a genuine community of creatives who just really care about music.
For my debut set at Parquette, I wanted to make a mix that reflects the music I love now and have loved since I was a teenager. Unconcerned with “cool electronic music” and obsessed with “band” music, I mixed songs that probably only make sense to me.
I had a stress dream the night before that the mixer stopped working and melted in my hands because I mixed punk music with footwork, which I did manage to somewhat pull off IRL.
I always enjoy when DJs share their track IDs and break down why they chose each song, and I thought this was a good opportunity to do the same. Enjoy.
“TOPS Theme” - TOPS
One of my favourite songs from high school, off of their 2012 album Tender Opposites (Arbutus Records). It holds the essence of that era for me, being 15 years old and looking to the future, hopeful of discovering a music scene somewhere cool like Montreal. (Lore reveal: I grew up in Chinatown in Ottawa)
“Heaven Scent” - Soulwax feat. Chloë Sevigny
An ultimate cool girl anthem, and an easy opener (sounds good sped up or down) to a DJ set that merges “guitar music” with something more electronic leaning.
“心臓の扉 - Shinzo No Tobira” - Mariah
This album was a YouTube rabbit hole find many years ago, and I literally screamed when I found it at Sonic Boom on vinyl years later.
“Be True” - Can’t Believe
Montreal’s latest pop supergroup, Can’t Believe, tugs at my heartstrings with this one, and I had to go DJ galaxy brain mode to figure out how to mix it.
“The Future Is Now” - POiSON GiRLFRiEND
I had the honour of opening for POiSON GiRLFRiEND this past fall, almost exactly after I had bought her album 1992 MELTING MOMENT (Victor Entertainment) on vinyl at Sonic Boom. It felt like a dream come true. That show pushed me to think outside my usual DJ routine and to expand into more experimental music that I was genuinely excited about and inspired by. The structure of that set greatly informed this one, and I wanted to pay homage to that creative development.
“Spring Is Coming With A Strawberry In The Mouth” - Operating Theatre
I need spring to hurry up so badly it’s not even funny. This is one of my favourite songs that recently resurfaced back into mainstream consciousness due to Caroline Polachek’s cover.
“In A Moment Divine” - Freak Heat Waves/Cindy Lee
This has been my Instagram song since they gave me access to that feature. A beautiful and expansive track that bridges the sonic journey between band-adjacent music into the world of electronic.
“Object Permanence” - Sophia Stel
Sophia Stel is one of my favourite lyricists, maybe ever? “Always talkin' about love like I know it, but I think it’s time that I show it, show it all to you,” and “Hate turns to boredom, and boredom's a fate I can't take,” are lines that have stuck with me and have admittedly helped me get over a recent heartbreak. Honourable mention goes to “You Could Hate me (Margo XS Remix,” which I wanted to include but was a bit too lit for 2pm on a Sunday.
“Police Scanner” - Chanel Beads
I can’t even begin to explain my adoration for Chanel Beads. I discovered the band through my friend Lau’s Instagram stories, and have been obsessed ever since. Their 2024 album Your Day Will Come (Jagjaguwar) gets played in my apartment at least... five times a week, probably more. “You owe it to yourself, Gotta believe in something else,” “Soul to bear, Changes come, Something strange yeah something new.” Gorgeous. Makes people reflect on the human condition in the club.
“FACT 2” -POiSON GiRLFRiEND
Seeing this song live in Montreal and a few months later in Tokyo at SUPERDOMMUNE were, without a doubt, some of the highlights of my life.
“Primavera” - Páula/Povoa/Jerge
Back on my springtime summoning grind, this track is sparkly and uplifting, almost always getting people to start moving on the dancefloor.
“Leather Forever” - Miss Kittin & The Hacker
As we start to get fast BPM-wise, I wanted to dip into the world of acid, while still matching the airy vocals of the previous track. Miss Kittin fits the bill perfectly.
“Shattered” - Jump Source, Patrick Holland, Priori, Helena Deland & Ross Meen
A local all-star lineup came together for this track, with Helena’s vocal melodies leading us deeper into the party. I’ve been a big fan of all her work since her early indie rock days, especially her collaborative project Hildegard with Ouri, which leans more electronic.
“NOT TODAY” - Kim Gordon
Fresh off her new album PLAY ME (Matador Records), the droning guitar and upbeat drums feel like a warm ocean of sound washing over me, and pulling me into Kim’s world. Mundane musings paired with deep political reflections make this a perfect track. “Paint me up, make me dark, make me down. Where's my gum? Post-mate.” Somehow, the song's structure was fast enough to mix with footwork, and it graciously provided a loopable drum section around 2:38 before the vocals kick back in.
“Andres” - DJ Swisha
I had to aggressively slow this track down to mix with the previous one, sorry Isaac.
“Ef” - Chanel Beads
We’re back in indie rock world, with the goal of getting the bpm up higher than I normally ever want to play. I can’t explain this choice other than the fact that it mixes relatively well with the next track.
“Teenage Riot” - Sonic Youth
Falling back into the world of music I was obsessed with as a teenager, I think I discovered this song on a mix CD that my friend Maia’s mum gave me once she clued in that I was into this kind of stuff. Thank you, Barb, for pointing me in the right musical direction so early on.
“Age of Consent” - New Order
Another song that rewired my brain when I was a teenager. Predating Teenage Riot by a couple of years, but still relatively in the same sonic universe (in my mind at least). Although a bit more joyful in tone (instrumentally, not lyrically), this is one of my favourite songs of all time. “Do you find this happens all the time? Crucial point one day becomes a crime.” Amazing.
“Bye Bye Bye” - Sean Nicholas Savage
This is another song I heard in high school that drastically shaped my taste in music. Very long story short, it somehow led me to work at Arbutus Records today. Perfect record that captures the sound of the era like no other, and one of Mac DeMarco’s favourite songs to cover.
